David Jokic, a dedicated farmer from Prnjavar, Bosnia and Herzegovina, operates a third-generation family farm managing a herd of 150 cattle, which includes 50-60 milking cows. With a strong commitment to enhancing livestock productivity, David has consistently sought out innovations that align with best practices in cattle farming.
Facing challenges due to historical genetic limitations in Bosnian cattle farming, David recognized the need for strategic improvements in both livestock management and environmental conditions within the barn.
In November 2024, David installed the RUDAX lighting system, replacing the traditional lighting setup that previously lacked the required impact on cow welfare and productivity. This strategic decision to partner with HATO and their local representative, Probico, has proven to be a pivotal move for David's farm.
After three months of using the HATO lighting system, David noticed significant enhancements in animal behaviour and barn conditions. The brightness and even light distribution provided by the HATO lights have created a well-lit environment, encouraging better feed intake among his cows.
This improvement is crucial, as it contributes directly to milk production. With the ongoing benefits of the Hato lighting system, he hopes to advance to 40 kg per cow in the coming years.
Challenges and goals
Historically, Bosnian cattle farming has struggled with poor performance linked to genetic limitations. David understands that addressing these challenges requires better management practices, including the implementation of advanced lighting solutions. With HATO's innovative lighting, he is aligning his farm with modern agricultural standards and striving for continuous improvement.
The agricultural sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina is witnessing a renaissance, with renewed emphasis on genetic improvement and effective management strategies. As David integrates HATO lighting into his operations, he is positioning his farm for future success in a competitive market.
David looks forward to sharing his success story and continues to embrace innovation in livestock management. With the support of HATO and their partner Probico, he is confident that his efforts will lead to sustainable growth in the cattle farming sector.
