The Insect Light Trap (ILT) market is at a regulatory and technological crossroads. With the impending phase-out of mercury-based fluorescent lamps and the push for higher energy efficiency, there is an urgent need for a seamless transition to LED.
HATO UV provides a comprehensive proposition to support this transition. By leveraging proprietary performance-enhancing technologies, including our ‘Boost’ innovation, and advanced driver solutions, we provide a competitive, high-performance alternative to traditional fluorescent lamps. Our objective is to enable cost-effective upgrade pathways across a multi-million unit global installed base of ILT systems, significantly reducing the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) while maximizing fly catchability.
The Challenge: Navigating Technical Barriers
The transition from fluorescent to LED in the UV spectrum is hindered by three primary technical hurdles:
- Ballast Compatibility: Current ILTs utilize a fragmented landscape of electromagnetic and High-Frequency (HF) ballasts.
- Series Circuit Interaction: Standard LED replacements in series-wired units may experience unstable operating conditions due to interaction between active internal drivers, which can lead to significant reduction in effective power and UV output.
- Radiation Pulsing: Standard electrical pulsing reduces the consistency of UV output, which directly impacts the "attractiveness" of the trap to insects.
The HATO UV Solution
HATO UV has developed a multi-tiered approach to ensure that any existing ILT housing can be upgraded without replacing the entire fixture.
1. Universal Power Solutions: We provide three distinct lamp architectures to match the existing infrastructure:
- Electromagnetic Ballast Compatible: LED solutions designed to work with legacy gas/filament systems.
- Direct Power (Mains): For simplified, bypassed installations.
- HF Ballast Compatible: Specialized HF-compatible lamps designed to support emerging EU performance requirements, including sub-0.5 s start-up performance targets
2. Proprietary Driver for Series Lamps (USP): Unlike standard LEDs that fail in series configurations due to interaction between active internal drivers. HATO UV has developed a custom driver. This enables stable operation and maintains required performance levels in series-wired installations, ensuring consistent radiation output required for optimal trap performance.
3. Boost Technology (USP): It is a proprietary technology developed to enhance overall trapping effectiveness at system level relative to conventional solutions.
Value Proposition
By adopting HATO UV technology, customers realize four key benefits:
| Feature | Market Impact |
| Mercury-Free | Ensures full compliance with evolving health and environmental safety regulations (e.g., Minamata Convention). |
| Energy Efficiency | Delivers a dramatic reduction in power consumption and a significantly lower carbon footprint. |
| Extended Lifecycle | Maximizes operational uptime by reducing maintenance cycles and long-term replacement costs. |
| Optimized Catch Rate | Guarantees superior UV radiation consistency through proprietary Boost Technology. |
Market Strategy & Objectives
Our strategy focuses on two primary channels:
| Retrofit Market: Enable upgrades across a large global installed base of ILT systems. We offer a low-cost upgrade path that avoids the capital expenditure of full housing replacement | OEM Partnerships: Engaging with original equipment manufacturers to integrate HATO UV technology as a preferred performance platform for new systems |
Intellectual Property & Development
HATO UV is focused on safeguarding its competitive advantage through controlled development and protection of proprietary solutions. Current development activities are concentrated on:
- Optical Performance Optimization
Evaluation of different light transmission and diffusion characteristics to identify the most effective optical configuration for insect attraction. - Proprietary System Technologies & IP Protection
Development and protection of proprietary approaches related to system operation and performance enhancement. How these solutions are communicated externally and protected as intellectual property is considered a critical strategic priority.
HATO UV is not just replacing a bulb; we are accelerating the technological transition of the industry. Our solutions eliminate the technical barriers of LED adoption while improving performance and regulatory compliance. We invite you to partner with us in leading the transition to a more efficient, mercury-free future.
