Intelligent Lighting for Poultry: What Mexico Taught Us

During the first and third quartersof 2025, Mexico became a key point for the deployment of advanced lighting solutions in the poultry sector, mainly.

HATO
Lighting participated in two strategic initiatives: an intensive trade route together with PIS and XI VIVA Proyectos in March; and the 19th Cycle of conferences Bovans of IMSA - Hendrix Genetics Layers in September.
Both experiences revealed the growing interest in lighting as a tool for management, welfare and productive efficiency.

March: Trade Route with PIS and VIVA Proyectos

From March 10-13, we visited Guadalajara, San Juan de los Lagos, Celaya and Querétaro, meeting with major producers in the region, including PROAN and BACHOCO. At each stop, we gave technical presentations on optimal lighting for broilers, swine and dairy cattle, in addition to performing on-farm lighting measurements with the HATO-ONE.

September: Hendrix Genetics Layers Seminar

From September 3-5, 2025, Guadalajara was the epicenter of poultry innovation during the 19th Conference Series Bovans of Hendrix Genetics in collaboration with IMSA Sanfer. At the RIU Hotel, more than 100 participants gathered to share knowledge on genetics, nutrition, management and technology. HATO Lighting was present to talk about a key topic that often goes unnoticed: lighting.

Light as a management tool

Both at the schools technical presented at route and at the seminar in Guadalajara, we talked about the "Key aspectsin the management of light for poultry and livestockfarms", focusing on how lightingcan reduce the animal stress and unwanted behavior on farm, improving as well the animal performance, efficiency in operations and improved resultson farm.

Highlights:

  • The use of blue light to facilitate bird catching and vaccination was discussed.
  • Lighting as an ethical and effective solution to reduce pecking, improve transition from rearing to production in layers .
  • It was shown how dimmable, flicker-free lighting with appropriate spectrums improves animal welfare and productivity.
  • The audience responded enthusiastically, requesting lighting evaluations, training and demonstrations of the HATO-ONE light meter.

Connections and Opportunities

During the event and the roadshow through central Mexico, links were established with companies such as Cargill Central America, Granja Roble Alto of Costa Rica, JAT Sistemas Agropecuarios, Grupo Abrego, and many more. Opportunities were also opened in Brazil, Argentina, Pakistan and the Middle East.

Local distributors such as VIVA Proyectos were instrumental in consolidating our presence in Mexico, offering technical, commercial and logistical support.
