Puesta Procavi Cañete, a male breeder facility located in Cañete, Spain, and part of Procavi S.L.—a major player in European turkey production—recently completed a successful six-month production cycle following the installation of the HATO FORTIS LED lighting system.
The initiative aimed to enhance lighting consistency, improve animal productivity, reduce maintenance demands, and drive down energy costs. The results exceeded expectations, demonstrating clear benefits in both performance metrics and operational efficiency.
Project Overview
- Location: Puesta Procavi Cañete – Male Breeder House
- Installer: ELIAS Equipamientos Ganadeiros
- Lighting System: HATO FORTIS LED
- Monitoring Period: Full 6-month production cycle
Dedicated to maintaining high standards of breeding performance and animal welfare, the facility implemented the HATO FORTIS system as part of its commitment to continuous improvement. The project was carried out with the close cooperation of HATO’s engineering team to ensure tailored installation and maximum lighting efficiency.
Objectives
The lighting upgrade was designed to achieve four key goals:
- Ensure uniform light distribution throughout the breeder house
- Minimize maintenance-related disruptions
- Sustain or enhance animal performance, including weight and reproductive metrics
- Improve overall energy efficiency and hygiene conditions
Installation & Monitoring
The HATO FORTIS LED lighting system was installed across the breeder house with input from both the HATO and site teams. The lighting performance and its impact on biological indicators were closely tracked throughout the six-month period to assess effectiveness.
Results & Performance Highlights
The HATO FORTIS system delivered strong outcomes across multiple operational benchmarks:
• Lighting Performance: Uniform distribution created consistent environmental conditions for the birds.
• Reliability: No lamp failures occurred during the cycle, eliminating the need for mid-cycle maintenance.
• Animal Health: Bird weight gain remained steady without changes to feed levels or lighting schedules.
• Reproductive Performance: Semen quality remained consistently high with average volumes of 0.4–0.5 ml per male and over 5 million sperm cells per tube.
• Hygiene: The fixtures were designed for easy cleaning, supporting high biosecurity standards.
• Energy Efficiency: Significant savings were achieved by replacing fluorescent lights with FORTIS LEDs.
