As third-generation farmers, Eric and his brother have continued their family legacy of excellence in poultry farming. Managing around 100,000 layers across four houses, three family-owned and one rented, they oversee every aspect of the operation, including growing their own crops and preparing custom feed for their birds.
Clear advantage over tubes
When it came time to upgrade the lighting in one of their buildings, the brothers were introduced to HATO’s STERNA lighting system at an event held by Hodowca from Gdańsk. Impressed by STERNA’s unique ability to evenly distribute light across all layers of the cage system - a clear advantage over traditional tube lights.
Knowing that their current supplier couldn’t provide the same quality light decided to install STERNA. This light system also provides a light spread across the cages that their existing tube lights could not offer.
Rapid Response
While the installation process encountered an early hiccup with the light manager, it was quickly resolved. In fact, the brothers praised the rapid and responsive customer service, calling it the fastest they had ever experienced.
Initial Impression
Now, six weeks into using STERNA, with three weeks under full light management, the system is already proving its worth. Although the current flock is at the tail end of its cycle at 105 weeks, limiting visible short-term gains, they are impressed by the high build quality, intuitive plug-and-play setup, and consistent light distribution. They remain optimistic that the real benefits will become even clearer with the next flock.
Uniform light
STERNA is known for its ability to provide uniform light distribution across large cage systems, something traditional tube lights cannot achieve. This high-quality lighting solution creates an optimal light environment for H-cage systems. Its coated surfaces ensure even illumination across all tiers, promoting poultry comfort and enhancing performance.

STERNA is available in a range of light colours, including warm white and cool white, to further support animal well-being. For flexible, house-specific installation, it is offered with a direct connector, T-connector, or junction box.
Looking ahead, the brothers are watching closely how Poland’s green agenda may shape the future of layer farming, particularly regarding cage-free production.
For now, with regulatory shifts on hold, they are focused on maintaining high standards of animal welfare and efficiency within their current systems.
