As a product manager you’re constantly looking at innovations to improve aviary systems and help your customers boost production. Achieving these improvements requires a deep understanding of the market, bird behaviour and the systems (and its flaws) itself. The better you understand this, the better you can make the necessary adjustments and improvements that will enhance your product's success. I’ll explain why.
Requirement #1: Understanding your market
Staying informed about changes and trends in the market is critical. This includes keeping track of customer preferences, industry regulations, research, and innovations. For instance, the shift toward cage-free systems for poultry in the USA and tighter animal welfare regulations in the EU highlight the need for market knowledge.
This information helps you to serve customers better and stay ahead of competitors.
Requirement #2: Understanding the behaviour of birds
Bird behaviour is another crucial aspect that product managers of aviary system builders must understand to achieve success and avoid costly mistakes.
Birds perform optimally when comfortable, which means that understanding their preferences is necessary. Adapting the system to mimic their natural environment as much as possible is the key.
The right lighting can be used to encourage specific behaviour such as laying eggs in the nest instead of on the floor or in the system. That’s just one example of the role lighting plays within the aviary. There are many more factors it contributes to, to mimic their natural behaviour.
Requirement #3: Understanding the entire system (and its flaws)
To improve aviary systems, it doesn’t only require knowing the market and having a clear understanding of bird behaviour. Understanding the system and how it performs is just as critical. This knowledge enables you to identify areas where the system can be improved, leading to better performance.
By for example improving lighting, changing the perch's shape, or making the system more accessible to the birds, product managers can enhance the overall success of their product.
The important role lighting plays
To achieve success, product managers must have a deep understanding of the market, bird behavior, and the entire system. With this knowledge, they can make the necessary adjustments and improvements.
However, the importance of good lighting can’t be overemphasized. It plays a crucial role in cost efficiency and performance of aviary systems. Our experts have written a guide that covers how system lighting helps you to achieve optimal performance in the aviary system while significantly reducing costs and captivating both customers and stakeholders.
